Justin Gatlin has analysed Noah Lyles' 2024 100m strategy, feeling sorry for his competitors as the Paris Olympics approach.
American sprinting great Justin Gatlin has explained the strategy adopted by Noah Lyles that could make him unstoppable as the 2024 Paris Olympics fast approaches.
Lyles strolled to 100m victory and crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 9.96 in Bermuda, something he could not believe and noted that it was a good sign as he gears up for the Olympic trials and then later the crème de la crème of the season, the Olympic Games.
Lyles has tended to pick up speed from the 60 metre mark before strolling to victory, but the six-time World Champion adopted a different strategy in Bermuda, which Gatlin says could give his competitors loads of problems moving forward.
“Setting up that race strategy the way he did and moving and dominating the race at about 45-50 metre mark and now getting to 70 using what he normally does, a lot of people are going to be in trouble,” Gatlin remarked on his Ready-Set Go Podcast.
Lyles’ indoor season, where he finished second in the 60m indoor race behind compatriot Christian Coleman, could have helped him fasten his opening speed, with the 26-year-old capable of completing a 60m race in just 6.44 seconds.
Meanwhile, Gatlin has commended Lyles for his decision to compete more frequently on American soil, highlighting the positive impact it has on the sport of track and field in the country, particularly ahead of the Olympics.

'I am not too concerned' - American sprint icon explains Sha'Carri Richardson's awful season start
Richardson has underwhelmed in her opening two 200m races in China, but Gatlin has explained why her fans should not be worried moving forward.
"I like seeing bigger athletes take the opportunity to compete more domestically. Having someone like Noah come along, he has an opportunity to race in America and it kind of helps build the awareness of Track and Field here," Gatlin remarked.
As Lyles continues to fine-tune his strategy and showcase his unparalleled talent, Gatlin's analysis underscores the anticipation and excitement surrounding the sprinter's journey towards Olympic glory in Paris.
With his newfound approach, Lyles emerges as a formidable force poised to leave an indelible mark on the track and field landscape.
