Four-time world champion Justin Gatlin explained why Shericka Jackson's slow start to the season should not worry Jamaican fans.
American sprint legend Justin Gatlin is not worried about two-time world 200m champion Shericka Jackson’s slow start to the season.
Jackson, the two-time world 100m silver medallist, delayed her season opener and has not displayed great times in the season so far, with the Jamaican Championships coming up. This has caused worry among the Jamaican’s fans but four-time world champion Gatlin remains unfazed.
After postponing her season and skipping four meets, the JAAA Puma Fuller Anderson Development Meet, the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet, the Miramar Invitational, and the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, Jackson finally opened her season at the JAAA All Comers Series #1 with a win in the 100m.
She then proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, where she won the 200m in 22.82 before fading to a fifth place at the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo. Jackson then competed at the meeting in Stockholm where she also won the race but her times have been worrying.

Discussing on his YouTube Channel, Ready Set Go, the former Olympic champion and his co-host Rodney Green noted that Jackson’s fifth-place performance was her first time falling off the podium in the 200m in the previous two years. Green noted that it should be an important concern for Jackson since the performance could be difficult to work on before the trials.
Though, he wasn’t too worried about Jackson and was surprised to see her finish fifth, which is unusual for her. Meanwhile, Gatlin was proud of Jackson’s ability to keep believing in her coach despite the poor display.

The long-distance runner has explained why it means a lot to make the cut to the marathon team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“She said the golden words, ‘I trust my coach, and I trust the process.’ A lot of athletes don’t see that through,” Gatlin said.
The four-time world champion also emphasized that athletes believing in their coaches is very unique.
