American sprint legend Justin Gatlin has made a bold prediction for Olympics gold in 100m and Noah Lyles is not his pick.
Former US sprinter Justin Gatlin does not feel Noah Lyles will win the 100m gold at the Paris Olympics despite his status as hot favourite to win the race.
Lyles is considered by many as the man to beat in 100m even though he has gone to the Olympics with the fourth fastest time of the season.
The world champion has also backed himself to win an Olympics title over the distance but while making his predictions alongside former Bahamas sprinter Rodney Green, Gatlin picked Kishane Thompson as the man to win gold followed by Lyles and Oblique Seville.

Paris 2024: Kishane Thompson maintains mystique ahead of 100m heats
The Jamaican sprinter has maintained a low profile at the Paris Games focusing on training ahead of the crucial 100m event.
“It is going to come down to a foot race, let us throw the times out of the window. If Kishane is in front of Noah at the 45m-50m mark, it’s Kishane to win,” Gatlin said on his Ready Set Go Podcast.
“I don’t see Noah running Kishane down, and Noah is known for his top end speed, and I’m only saying that because Kishane hasn’t shown us the rest of what he can do.
“But there is a flipside as well because Kishane hasn’t finished off races and has not felt the pressure of someone with him the last five or 10m of races so that plays a big role as well.
“I can see Kishane winning, I can see Kishane on that podium for sure but if he has mishaps, I can see Noah winning.”
Jamaican Thompson has the world’s fastest time this year following his 9.77 at the Olympics trials while Lyles has 9.83.
Seville, meanwhile, handed Lyles his first defeat of the season in 100m in June and comes into the Games with the third fastest time of the season at 9.82.

Paris 2024: Why Omanyala's mother believes her son will triumph over Noah Lyles & Kishane Thompson
Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala faces stiff competition from Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson at Paris 2024.
Those could be the dynamics that informed Gatlin’s decision although Green feels the two Jamaicans are far better than Lyles.
Green picked Seville and Thompson to win gold and silver respectively with Lyles in third place.
“There is a possibility Oblique Seville is in the best situation of his life because now the pressure is no longer on him, it’s on Kishane,” said Green.
