ATHLETICS Kelvin Kiptum’s family house already in the final stages of completion on day four of seven-day marathon construction assignment
The skeleton of the late Kelvin Kiptum's house has now been completed, with the walls now set to be raised on day four of a seven-day construction marathon
They were joined by other Kenyans as they carried large banners with the image of Kiptum, braving the scorching sun to honour their departed colleague, who died following a road accident alongside his coach Gervais Hakizimana on February 13.
This came a day after over 200 athletes who train in Iten gathered to light candles in his honour on Sunday.
“Kiptum’s death shocked the whole world because he is someone who had embraced athletics and took it to another level. He made the marathon look so easy and everybody was waiting to see how he would perform in April during the Rotterdam Marathon in the Netherlands,” Keitany told Nation.
“We were also waiting to see how he was going to tackle the Olympic Games but he has left us. The whole world is grieving. We shall continue praying for the family at these trying moments so that they can be strong,” added Keitany, the women’s only marathon world record holder.
