The woman who has claimed to have a child with the late world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum has revealed fresh details about her relationship with his parents and wife.
Edna Awuor, the woman who has claimed to have a child with the late world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum, now claims the athlete’s family were well aware of their relationship.
Awuor failed in her attempts to block Kiptum’s funeral last week after she filed an application in court seeking to have a DNA to ascertain the paternity of her 19-month old child before he is buried.
The 22-year-old had claimed that Kiptum’s family failed to recognise her and blocked her from the funeral programme and she feared that her daughter would not benefit from the athlete’s wealth, hence her decision to go to court.

ATHLETICS Woman who wanted court to stop Kelvin Kiptum’s burial speaks
A woman who went to court seeking to block Kelvin Kiptum’s burial by alleging the departed marathoner fathered a child with her has explained why she took the decision.
Awuor claims she had a cordial relationship with Rotich and they would communicate regularly about Kiptum’s whereabouts whenever either of them needed him and could not find him.
“We are friends with his wife and we could even call each other. Kiptum’s wife would call me whenever she did not find him on the phone,” she added.
Justice Robert Wananda, sitting at the High Court in Eldoret, declined Awuor’s request to have Kiptum’s burial stopped last Thursday, saying the athlete’s burial was a matter of public interest, while advising her to seek other legal avenues to ensure the child is well taken care of.
“I was afraid to approach the family but my uncles pressured me to go to court. I would want to have a DNA done to ascertain the paternity of his child. A few weeks before his demise, he visited us and went with our child to have a cup of tea,” she said.
Kiptum was buried at his Naiberi farm in Uasin Gishu county last Friday following his tragic death through a road accident alongside his coach Gervais Hakizimana on February 11.
