The late Kelvin Kiptum's alleged baby mama has opened up on why she chose to be in a relationship with him despite knowing he had a wife and what life has been like since his demise.
Edna Awuor, the alleged baby mama of the late Kelvin Kiptum has opened up on the promises made to her by the world marathon record holder and why she chose to be in a relationship with the fallen hero despite him being a married man.
Awuor, speaking to Tuko Kenya, disclosed that she met the late Kiptum in 2016 and they were just friends. She added that they took the next step to be in a relationship in 2019 and after completing her high school education, they moved in together.
Despite knowing that he had a wife, Awuor fell in love with the caring side of Kiptum and described him as a person who never showed her contempt.

“He was very loving and he knew how to show it. He was also a good and caring person and he never showed me that he was just using me since he already had a wife,” she said.
Awuor added that she had met the wife and sometimes they used to talk over the phone and she would inquire about Kiptum’s affairs most of the time.

When Kiptum was starting his career, Awuor admitted that she was there and even when he won his first major marathon, the Valencia Marathon, she remembers he video-called her.
The world record holder was only competing in his first marathon, where he shattered the course record and ran the fastest time ever over a debut in the marathon.
“I’m yet to be in contact with Kiptum’s family but I can confirm that the baby is his. During the time I was delivering, Kiptum was in the hospital with me and we even decided on how we shall name our child,” she said.
Awuor went to court to ensure that DNA was done and to ensure that the public got to know the truth and avoid seeing her as the villain.

Edna Awuor is seeking recognition for her son with late marathoner Kelvin Kiptum after a court denied her request for a DNA test.
She noted that social media comments have been harsh on her and she wanted to clear the air on that. However, now that the court has declined the case, she is planning to get in touch with the family and see the way forward.
“I don’t want attention and I even knew Kelvin before he became a star and we used to encourage each other during that time.
“When he broke the marathon in Chicago, many people came to know about him. He was not a proud person,” she added.

Awuor also explained that Kiptum had promised to marry her too but was not certain of the timing. She added that she wants her child to be recognised and insists that she does not want Kiptum's wealth.
She noted that whenever he would go to international events, he would bring her gifts such as shoes and Nike gear and described him as a person who was very jovial and kind. She added that Kiptum had promised to take her back to school after the child had grown up.
Meanwhile, Awour explained that she was watching the AFCON game between Nigeria and Ivory Coast and later went to sleep before being woken up to the sad news of his demise.
