Kelvin Kiptum’s training-mates have shared details of an unusual request the world marathon record holder made to them a day before he met his tragic death
An unusual request for photos from Kelvin Kiptum a day before his tragic death has left his training-mates feeling that he may have had a premonition about his demise.
The world marathon record holder died alongside his coach, Rwandan Gervais Hakizimana, following a road accident along Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road when he reportedly lost control of his car before hitting a tree on Sunday night.
News of his death has sent shock waves among the global sporting fraternity given his world record was just ratified last week and he was eyeing history by becoming the first man to run an official marathon under two hours.

ATHLETICS Woman who survived accident that killed Kelvin Kiptum discharged from hospital
The only passenger who survived the accident that killed Kelvin Kiptum, has been discharged from a hospital in Eldoret after suffering serious injuries.
Following his untimely death, his colleagues shared the last moments they had with him, revealing that the 24-year-old had insisted they take photos with him after training on Saturday.
Some of the athletes, who gathered at Eldoret’s Racecourse Hospital to view his body before it was taken to the morgue, said they found the request unusual since Kiptum was one of the most reserved members of the camp.
According to Citizen TV, the athletes said Kiptum told them that they were not sure of what tomorrow held hence the need to take the photos for memories and that he was also sure of running sub-two-hours at the Rotterdam Marathon and they would remember him through the images.
