Kenya bagged 10 medals both individual and team titles including six gold, two silver, and two bronze.
Athletics Kenya Director of Youth and Development Barnaba Korir has revealed Kenya is looking to adopt the successful blueprint of the World Cross-Country Championship in future events to bring more glory to the country.
Before the global show, the team had been camping at the Kigari Teachers Training College in Embu for close to five weeks in preparation for the cross-country.
Korir noted that a host of factors including teamwork, rigorous preparations, and top-notch coaching played a crucial role in their success at championships and he revealed that the same formula will be used for future events.
"The team’s preparation for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships has provided us with a template on how to plan for success in future competitions.
It is our objective, desire and hope that the excellent performance by Team Kenya in Bathurst, Australia will transmit to other major competitions in 2023, including the World Athletics Championships, World Continental Tour and Diamond League meetings," said Korir.
Korir also strongly believes teamwork contributed largely to the athletes posting impressive results.
Kenya bagged 10 individual and team medals, including six gold, two silver, and two bronze. Kenya also reclaimed the team title they last won in the 2011 edition of the event in Punta Umbria, Spain.
Korir said the time the team was in residential training not only enabled them to prepare at an individual level but also improved the bond among the athletes, which proved helpful during the competition.
“A perfect example of how the athletes had become one big family was seen during the junior women’s race where two Kenyan runners handed water bottles to each other to enable them rehydrate,” Korir said.
Korir noted that as the team prepares for other championships going forward, they intend to ensure teamwork is emphasized in order to emerge champions.
“It is our objective, desire and hope that the excellent performance by Team Kenya in Bathurst, Australia will transmit to other major competitions in 2023, including the World Athletics Championships, World Continental Tour and Diamond League meetings,” he said.
He also lauded Team Kenya for their splendid performance in Bathurst saluting them for the unwavering sacrifice.
“It is a victory that did not simply come but was a work in progress, which involved intense training in the hilly terrains of Embu County,” he said.
He also extended a hand of gratitude to the technical bench led by head coach Julius for their commendable work in ensuring athletes do well.
