Described by local media as a possible outcome of a "love triangle", this tragic incident has both shocked and grief the global sports community.

A somber cloud hangs over the world of athletics as two Kenyan athletes are apprehended in connection with the mysterious death of Rwandan runner, Siragi Rubayita.

The 34-year-old athlete's life was cut short at a prominent training center in the town of Iten, western Kenya, a place synonymous with athletic excellence.

Siragi Rubayita had travelled to Iten to prepare for an upcoming competition in Italy.

Described by local media as a possible outcome of a "love triangle", this tragic incident has both shocked and grief the global sports community.

As his family recounts, the night preceding his scheduled departure, he was invited to the home of a fellow athlete and his girlfriend.

His family conveyed their anguish, stating he met with "a senseless act of violence when a fellow athlete and his girlfriend invited him to their home the night before his departure."

The family voiced their desire for "truth and justice" for their loved one who was ardently "pursuing his passion for running and sports excellence."

Nasra Bishumba, the deceased runner's sister, shared with the BBC the frantic hours following her brother's mysterious disappearance.

Expecting his return to Kigali ahead of the Italy trip, the alarm was sounded by his roommate after Rubayita failed to come back.

Bishumba praised the proactive approach of the Iten coaches, noting they were "instrumental" in the search.

"After informing us, they immediately started working with the police and that's how the suspects were apprehended," she recounted.

The Kenyan male athlete, now a prime suspect, was allegedly discontent with the relationship developing between Rubayita and the Kenyan female athlete.

While the circumstances surrounding this tragic event continue to unfold, the grieving family is taking steps to repatriate their beloved son and brother.

They have dispatched a delegation to Iten to bring his body home where they intend to give him love and honour him for the exceptional son and brother that he was.

Rwanda's High Commission in Kenya also confirmed their active involvement, stating, "a diplomat from the commission is on the ground to follow up on the case".

Rubayita, a prominent figure in Rwandan athletics, represented his country in international arenas across Africa and Europe.

Recently, in June, he secured a 13th-place finish at the esteemed Kigali International Peace Marathon.
