Athletics Integrity Unit takes action against 2021 Milano Marathon winner for alleged doping violation
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has handed down a provisional suspension to Tirus Ekiru, the 31-year-old Kenyan long-distance runner who clinched victory in the prestigious 2021 Milano Marathon.
The AIU's decision comes in light of the presence and use of prohibited substances, including Triamcinolone Acetonide and its metabolite, Pethidine and its metabolite, and allegations of tampering.
The AIU, the independent anti-doping watchdog for track and field athletics, stated in a press release.
"The AIU has provisionally suspended Titus Ekiru (Kenya) for the presence of Prohibited Substances (Triamcinolone Acetonide and metabolite; Pethidine and metabolite) and for Tampering."

Triamcinolone Acetonide, a corticosteroid, and Pethidine, an opioid analgesic, are substances that are strictly prohibited in sports due to their potential performance-enhancing effects.
The presence of these substances, along with allegations of tampering, has raised serious concerns about Ekiru's integrity as an athlete.
If found guilty, he could face substantial penalties, including a lengthy ban from athletics, the forfeiture of his Milano Marathon title, and irreparable damage to his reputation.
