Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Yavi plans to open her season at the Prefontaine Classic, going up against the Kenyan trio that will be looking to stop her dominance.

Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Yavi is finally set to open her season at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene scheduled for Saturday, May 25.

The reigning world 3000m steeplechase champion has not raced this season and will be looking to open her 2024 season in the US, with her main targets this season being the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Diamond League final trophy winner will be up against the Kenyan trio who have in the past tried to dethrone her but the Bahrainian has stayed glued on the top prize.

World silver medallist Beatrice Chepkoech and world bronze medallist Faith Cherotich will be at the event, hoping to take the top honours in the race and shock Yavi. Commonwealth Games champion Jackline Chepkoech will also be in the mix.

Chepkoech has been in great form and has so far enjoyed an unbeaten streak in the 3000m Steeplechase in the Diamond League Meetings.

She started her steeplechase campaign at the African Games, taking the top prize before continuing her winning streak at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, China. Chepkoech then went ahead to win the race at the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, China.

She heads to the Prefontaine Classic, charged up to take top prize and continue her winning streak in the build up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, Cherotich finished second at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen and faded to finish 14th at the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, competing in the 5000m.

Meanwhile, Chepkoech will also be hunting for her first win in her specialty, following her fourth-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen before finishing 12th at the Meeting in Suzhou.
