Winning double gold at the Commonwealth Games is no mean feat, and Kiplimo did that in Birmingham to further enhance his reputation in long-distance running.
The year 2022 was a big one for several sports personalities in Uganda but especially for athlete Jacob Kiplimo.
Winning double gold at the Commonwealth Games is no mean feat, and Kiplimo did that in Birmingham to further enhance his reputation in long-distance running.
With Joshua Cheptegei sitting out the Games, all Uganda's hopes rested on the shoulders of 22-year-old Kiplimo.
He delivered the goods, emulating Cheptegei's 2018 achievement of winning the 5000m and 10000m gold.
Moses Kipsiro is the other Ugandan runner who had done that before, in 2010.
Kiplimo defeated Daniel Ebenyo, Kibiwott Kandie and Edward Zakayo to win the 10000m race in a Games' record time of 27:09.19 last August.
He would be on track four days later and against another trio of Kenyans fighting for the 5000m gold.
He still went on to race past Nicholas Kipkorir and Jacob Krop on the home stretch to double his gold count.
All this came a few days after scooping bronze at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
And on a day, the runner was named the USPA Nile Special Sports Personality for the month of March; he was also nominated for the award of Sports Personality for the year 2022.

Kiplimo's victory was a second in a row, having taken the award in February.
He will face competition from Lady Rugby Cranes' back Charlotte Mudoola, Victor Kiplagat and golfer Ronald Rugumayo.
Kiplagat won Uganda's first gold medal in Birmingham by completing the 42km marathon in two hours, 10 minutes and 55 seconds.
The award winner will be announced at the Nile Special USPA Awards Gala slated for later this year.
