Jacob Kiplimo has been named the March 2023 USPA/Nile Special Sports Personality of the month.
The athlete, who won the 16th edition of the New York City Half Marathon in a time of 1:01:31, got heavy backing from a sizeable number of sports journalists at the Imperial Royale Hotel on Monday.
He garnered 320 votes and beat off competition from the Rally Crew of Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba and landed the award.
Nasser and Katumba, the 2019 USPA Rally Crew of the Year, finished second at the 2023 Equator Rally in Voi, Kenya.
Powerlifter Roy Mubiru was also commended for winning Gold in the Arnold Classic Powerlifting Festival early last month in the USA.
The other sportsman whose efforts were recognised was boxer Latib Muwonge who got a commendation for winning the Africa Boxing Union title.
There was also commendation for the ladies' National Table team, which won silver, and the men's side, which settled for bronze at the ITTF Regional Senior Championship.
Uganda Cranes and KCCA FC striker Rogers Mato won the Supportive/Assist Award for his goal that handed the Cranes a 1-0 win over neighbours Tanzania in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
The goal resurrected Uganda's chances of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Toyota Buffaloes Scrum-half Aaron Tukei won the Promising Talent Award.
For the Sporting Award, the USPA Executive voted Madam Lameck Lily for her contribution to the growth and development of Bodybuilding in Uganda.
The USPA/Nile Special Sports Personality of the month is an initiative of the Uganda Sports Press Association and recognises athletes and teams that stand out in a particular month.
