Kiplimo wins Sports Personality of the Month award after March's heroics

Meanwhile, Kiplimo, who earned 265 votes, fended off opposition from cyclist Charles Kagimu (245), and the badminton duo of Husinah Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi (180) to the award.

Uganda's long distance star Jacob Kiplimo scooped the prestigious USPA (Uganda Sports Press Association) Sports Personality of the Month award for March.

This was confirmed at the USPA Annual General meeting held at the Cooper Chimney Restaurant, Lugogo on Saturday.

This is after he emphatically defended the Senior Men's World Cross Country Championships (10km) in a tight race in Belgrade, Serbia in March.

Kiplimo ran 28:09 to clinch the gold he also won last year in Bathurst, Australia

He beat Ethiopian Berihu Aregawi and Kenyan Benson Kiplangat, who ran 28:12 and 28:14, to finish second and third, respectively.

It should also be noted that Kiplimo's victory made it three successive gold medals in the senior men's race at the event for Uganda, with Joshua Cheptegei scooping the other in 2019.

Meanwhile, Kiplimo, who earned 265 votes, fended off opposition from cyclist Charles Kagimu (245), and the badminton duo of Husinah Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi (180) to the award.

Together with the previous monthly winners, Kiplimo will bea handed a plaque and cash from USPA's main sponsor Nile Breweries at a yet-to-be confirmed date this year.
