World 100m silver and 200m bronze medallist Letsile Tebogo was the recipient of a number of big gifts from his village of Kanye in Botswana in honour of his stellar 2023 campaign.
Botswana sprint sensation Letsile Tebogo was the recipient of two cows among several other gifts from his home village over the weekend.
The world 100m silver and 200m bronze medallist was honoured by people from his home village of Kanye as a sign of appreciation for making them proud during the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Tebogo ended Africa’s wait for a medal at the Worlds in 100m when he beat all odds to finish second behind Noah Lyles in a time of 9.88 before adding the 200m bronze after clocking 19.81 to also become the first man from his country to achieve the feat.
His village organised a ceremony in his honour where they gave him several gifts, including the two cows, with the 20-year-old thanking them for their continued support and promising them a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

ATHLETICS Kelvin Kiptum compared to legendary Daniel Komen
Athletics enthusiast Robert Ruto has given reasons why he thinks world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum is similar to the legendary athlete, Daniel Komen.
The gifts come one month after Tebogo was rewarded P150,000 (Ksh1,675,550) by Orange Botswana for his sterling performances in the 2023 season. Tebogo is the Orange Botswana brand ambassador.
Tebogo also received a special mention from Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi during his State of the Nation address last Monday.
"Botswana has become a formidable participant in sport on the global stage. This is mainly due to the commitment of our fellow citizens who have proven to be among the best in the world,” Masisi said in his speech.
“I am exceedingly proud of all the teams which participated at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, and remain immensely grateful to our global superstar in athletics, Letsile Tebogo, fondly known as, ‘School Boy’."
The 2022 World U20 100m champion also had an impressive Diamond League season, finishing second and third in Monaco and Paris in 100m respectively, and also won the 200m in Lausanne before a second-place finish in London over the distance.
