The world 100m silver medallist was off to a great start this season where he made headlines in South Africa. He was in action at the Curro Podium Final, competing in the 300m where he won the race in 30.69.
The time he clocked made him the fastest over the distance, and he took more than a tenth of a second off the previous world best of 30.81 set by Wayde van Niekerk in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on 28 June 2017.
Before that, the world best belonged to American track legend Michael Johnson with the 30.85 he clocked in 2000, also in Pretoria. The fourth athlete to have dipped under 31 seconds for the discipline is the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt who clocked 30.97 back in 2010.

Retired American track star Justin Gatlin has warned Letsile Tebogo's opponents, including Noah Lyles, to prepare for a tough show since the youngster is out to win everything.
In the race, he blasted from the blocks to create a clear lead and then continued to cruise, increasing his advantage even further down the home straight. He won by more than a second ahead of Gardeo Isaacs (31.91), while Bayapo Ndori was third in 31.95.
