Lucy Mawia reigned supreme in Soria in 2021 and 2022 and she will be keen to bag her third title this year.
Defending champion Lucy Mawia will return to the Cross Internacional de Soria – the fifth Gold level meeting of this season’s World Athletics Cross Country Tour – on Sunday, November 19 at the Monte Valonsadero circuit.
The women’s race will see two of the most prolific racers in the World Cross Country Tour will clash over 8km. Mawia is well aware of the course, having won in 2021 and 2022 and she will be returning to win her third title.

Barnabas Kiptum will be seeking redemption as he returns to the Abu Dhabi Marathon scheduled for December 16.
She won last season’s World Cross Country Tour and kicked off her current cross-country campaign with a third-place finish in Amorebieta and sixth place in Atapuerca.
Tough opposition will come from Ethiopia's Likina Amebaw who opened her season with a win in Amorebieta and a fourth-place finish in Atapuerca. She finished ahead of Mawia in both races and finished second in Cardiff last weekend.
The line-up has also attracted another Ethiopian, Asayech Ayichew, Burundi's Micheline Niyomahoro, and France's Alessia Zarbo.

As the cross country takes shape, Lucy Mawia has been confirmed for the Cross Internacional Zornotza, the first Spanish Gold stop of this season's series.
Home talent includes Marta García, 1500m specialist Águeda Marqués, and steeplechaser Irene Sánchez-Escribano.
Meanwhile, the men’s race will see former champion Rodrigue Kwizera return to the beautiful forest on the outskirts of Soria.

The Burundian will clash with Kenya's Hillary Chepkwony. Kwizera opened his cross-country season with a third place in Atapuerca before placing third in Seville last weekend just behind Chepkwony.
The Kenyan has proved to be in stellar form on that occasion when he only just missed out on victory in a blanket finish. He impressed on his international racing debut, winning the Venlo Half Marathon in March.

ATHLETICS Bethwel Yegon out to make amends at Fukuoka Marathon
Bethwel Yegon failed to finish the race during last year's edition of the Fukuoka Marathon and will be returning to the Japanese city to right his wrongs next month
Following his promising cross-country debut in Seville last weekend, Chepkwony will be looking for his first victory on that surface on Sunday.
Chepkwony’s other close challenger will be Uganda's Martin Kiprotich, who was sixth in Seville last weekend.
Another Burundian, Celestin Ndikumana, won the opening Gold leg in Amorebieta last month and placed fourth in Atapuerca the following week.
Eritrean duo Aron Kifle and Filmon Kibrom should also be in contention. The former placed 11th in Seville in his first competitive race for almost two years after struggling with injuries and hopes to improve on that performance on Sunday.
