Mark Otieno has given an update on how his season is going, highlighting the importance of debuting in the indoor races.

Former National champion Mark Otieno has opened up on the significance of the indoor races as he shifts his focus to the outdoors in search of Olympic qualification.

Otieno made his indoor debut at the Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting in France where he finished fifth in his heat and did not proceed to the final. He then proceeded to the Belgrade Indoor Meeting in Serbia, winning in his heat and proceeding to finish fifth in the final of the race.

He now shifts his focus to the outdoor door where his main target is to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris, France where he seeks to bounce back from the woes of the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

“Tried something new...indoor competitions. Memorable experience, great competitors. Grateful that I get to do this again. Now onto outdoors as we chase that Olympic qualification,” Otieno shared in a post on his Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Otieno returned to competitive running last year after successfully serving his two-year ban. He tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid methasterone and was suspended from the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games moments before he was due to compete in the 100m heats.

Last year, he competed in one international race in Italy, finishing second in the final of the race. This season has started with tons of blessings for him after he welcomed his son earlier last month.

Otieno then opened his track season at the third Athletics Kenya weekend meet, winning his respective heat in the 100m race. However, he did not compete in the semi-final and the final of the race.
