Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa has set another national record in the 400m at the ongoing World Championships National Trials.

Moraa led from gun to tape in the highly-contested race and crossed the finish line in 50.38 ahead of Mercy Oketch, who clocked 52.22. Maureen Thomas finished third in 52.76.

The dancing queen revealed that the record was not in her plans and it was a surprise that she had broken it.

“I am happy with the way I have run and broken my record. I hope I will continue with this momentum and do even better going forward. The weather was a challenge and I wasn’t even thinking about it…I am happy,” she said.

Moraa is, however, not certain about doubling in the 400m and 800m since the decision lies with the panel.

“I can’t decide on whether I will double since the panel has the final say,” she said, adding that pushing herself and putting God first has been her mantra towards her amazing form.

She noted that she’ll be campaigning for a podium finish in the 800m at the global event in Budapest, Hungary.
