Mary Moraa intensifies training for the Prefontaine Classic after her surprise withdrawal from the Brussels Diamond League.

World 800m champion Mary Moraa has intensified her preparations for the upcoming Prefontaine Classic which is scheduled to take place on September 16-17 at Hayward Field, University of Oregon.

After taking a break from the Diamond League circuit in Brussels, where she was slated to run the 400m race, Moraa is not leaving any stone unturned for her next big meet.

The 23-year-old has given her fans a glimpse into her rigorous training routine through her Facebook page.

"Just completed my speed work at the Lornah Kiplagat Training Complex in Iten. Today's session from Coach Alex Sang's training plan was quite challenging. He really pushed me today," Moraa shared with palpable enthusiasm.

The upcoming race promises to be a spectacle with top runners like Natoya Goule-Toppin, Catriona Bisset Halimah Nakaayi, Keely Hodgkinson, Sage Hurta-Klecker, Jemma Reekie, and Rénelle Lamote in the lineup.

But all eyes are on the expected face-off between Moraa and Jamaica’s Candice McLeod, especially after McLeod's commendable second-place finish at the Xiamen Diamond League meeting on September 2.

Despite her hiatus from the Brussels Diamond League, Moraa's trajectory this year has been nothing short of impressive.

The Kisii-born athlete showcased her potential by starting her season at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in the 400m category.

Later, she made her mark at the Kenya Police Championships and stood out at the World Championships National Trials, running the 400m.

Her debut in the Diamond League in Monaco in July 2023 saw her finishing in sixth place, which, for a first-timer in such a prestigious event, was commendable.

The Prefontaine Classic, named after the legendary American runner Steve Prefontaine, has a history of showcasing the best in the world of athletics.
