Faith Kipyegon has teased that the first time she steps foot on the start line for her first marathon, she will probably set a world record.

Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon has made her intentions of running a marathon in the near future clear.

Kipyegon, who has dominated the 1500m and 5000m this season will be looking to extend her winning streak to the 42km distance sometime in the future.

Speaking on the Jeff Koinange Live show, Kipyegon noted that once she steps foot on that start line, people should expect wonders and she might even set a world record over the distance.

“The mile was my first road race towards the marathon…you will see me in the marathon in the future. Watch me in Berlin next time…of course, I will run the marathon, one day, one time.

When that time comes, I will be on that start line. When I hit that road, I might break the world record,” Kipyegon said.

Following in Eliud Kipchoge’s footsteps, she noted that she would love to compete in the six World Marathon Majors that comprise London, Berlin, Tokyo, Boston, New York City, and Chicago Marathons.

She also noted that she hopes she will not skip the 10,000m and half marathons since she trains with the marathoners.

“I train with marathoners and I hope I will not skip the 10,000m. I absolutely want to run a marathon when that time comes. I want to compete in the World Major Marathons too,” Kipyegon said.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old has had a glamorous 2023 season, bagging double gold (1500m and 5000m) at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

She also set three world records this year, the 1500m, 5000m, and mile. However, the 5000m world record was shattered by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay at the Prefontaine Classic.

As she heads to the Olympic Games next year, she will be hoping to bag her third Olympic title in the 1500m.
