She revealed that she is currently getting ready for the National Police Service Championships scheduled for Wednesday, June 7 to Friday, June 9.

National champion Monica Safania is sharpening her talons to ensure she makes the cut to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary from August 19 to 27.

No Kenyan woman has ever made it to the podium at the World Championships and Safania is eager to ensure she makes history by being the first Kenyan to achieve the feat.

She revealed that she is currently getting ready for the National Police Service Championships scheduled for Wednesday, June 7 to Friday, June 9.

“My focus now is on the National Police Service Championships and I want to gauge my fitness. You know we produce some of the best sprinters and so it will be a great chance to test my speed.

I am trying to push and see if I can beat the qualifying time at the national trials so I can compete in Budapest,” she told Nation Sport.

The qualifying time for women’s 100m is 11.08, and so far, Safania has managed to run 11.80. She will have to put in extra effort if she is to make the cut to the global show.

She added that she is the female version of Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala and within no time, people will see her exploits.

“I am going to be just like him (Omanyala). I have been training well and so far, everything is on course. I am hoping for the best,” she said.

Safania opened her season with a second-place finish at the second Athletics Kenya meet before finishing third at the sixth AK meet, both staged at the Nyayo National Stadium. She then competed at the Kip Keino Classic where she unfortunately faded to finish eighth.
