Kisii Express is seeking to stamp her authority in Morocco as she intensifies preparations for the 2023 World Championships.

Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa will be looking for a World Championship-level time at this weekend’s Rabat Diamond League as she begins the defence of her trophy.

Moraa heads to Morocco's capital on the back of her victory at the Kip Keino Classic where she clocked a season-best 1:58.83 to upstage a strong field while also getting her revenge against South African Prudence Sekgodiso, who beat her meters to the finish line to claim victory last year.

The 22-year-old returns to a venue she knows too well after she clocked 1:58.93 to win the Rabat Diamond League last year and she is looking to lower her time to put her in good stead ahead of the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in August.

“I would like to register a time of 1:57 or even 1:56, with a pace of 56 or 57 seconds at the bell. I am working with my coach for a perfect 600m, then I see how my legs will respond in the last 200m,” Moraa told Nation.

“I am in talks with my coach who is really exerting pressure on me, which is good since you must dream about these things when you are in good form and health.”

Moraa run 1:56 when she won bronze at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, clocking 1:56.71 and those are the levels she is seeking to get at.

Kisii Express had admitted that she had not fully hit her form after the Kip Keino Classic victory and the Diamond League will give her a good picture of where is at as she eyes a podium finish at the World Championships.

“I have seen areas that I will seek to rectify so that in the next race, I am somewhere good,” she at Kasarani Stadium.

Moraa is also lined up for the Lausanne Diamond League in Switzerland on June 30, an event that will come after her participation in the Kenya Police Championship early next month.
