Athing Mu clocked a world-leading time and Personal Best time of 1:54.97 to win the women's 800m race.
Former World 800m champion Athing Mu has gotten sweet revenge over her Kenyan track opponent Mary Moraa after running a blistering two-lap race at the Hayward Field to clinch top honours in the Diamond League final.
The race started off at a slow pace and passing through the 100m mark, Keely Hodgkinson had already taken the lead, closely followed by Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin.

At the 500m mark, Hodgkinson was still leading the pack as Mary Moraa and Athing Mu followed closely. As they approached the finish line, the American had the strength as she emulated her last year's performance to cross the finish line in a world-leading time of 1:54.97.
Great Britain’s Hodgkinson finished second in a national record time of 1:55.19 as the Jamaican, Goule-Toppin completed the podium in a Personal Best time of 1:55.96.
Moraa seemed to be tired with 200m to go and she ended up finishing a distant fourth in 1:57.42. This is Moraa’s first loss of the season in the women’s 800m.
She has enjoyed a glamorous season, bagging wins in the Diamond League Meetings and she became the third Kenyan woman to win a world title in the 800m at the World Championships.
She opened her 800m season at the Kip Keino Classic where she reigned supreme before heading to the Diamond League Meeting.
The world champion then jetted into the country for the National championships where she stamped her authority before bringing the stadium to a standstill at the Diamond League Meeting in Lausanne.

Wanyonyi was in a class of his own as he sprinted to the line and cut the tape in Meeting record time and World lead time of 1:42.80.
Moraa then competed at the Meeting in Silesia before making history at the World Championships where she defeated Mu and Hodgkinson. She now goes back to the drawing board and will come back next season for the Olympic Games in Paris, France.
