The women’s national cricket team head coach Francis Otieno is hoping for a better performance as they return to the Kwibuka T20 tournament scheduled to take place from Thursday 8 to Sunday 18 June in Rwanda.

The Kenyan ladies have been the most successful team winning four titles since the event was started in 2014.
As they head out for the ninth edition of the event, they will be hoping to reclaim the title they lost to Tanzania during last year’s edition.
“It’s very important for the girls to remember that we’ve won the title four times and we’ve finished runners-up last year. We are still looking to go and see if we can reclaim the title because we always believe it is ours,” Otieno told KBC Sport.
The ladies will be up against Uganda, Botswana, and the hosts Rwanda. Defending champions Tanzania will not be participating in this year’s edition. The team will leave the country on Thursday, June 8 since their first game will be on Friday, June 10, against Uganda.
Otieno has added five budding players to the squad with the hope that they will learn from the seniors and hopefully even get a chance to participate in the tournament as well.

CRICKET Debutant Gerard Muthui makes senior Cricket Kenya squad for T-20 tourney
The 23-year-old has featured regularly for the Cricket Kenya Junior sides.
He has included batter Marion Juma, spin bowler Judith Ajiambo, bowlers Ann Wanjira and Lynz Nabwire, and wicketkeeper Charity Muthoni.
“We really have a very young side and we want to get them to play more games so they can gain more experience,” he said.

Former captain Qeentor Abel, Mary Mwangi, and Melvin Khagoitsa have been included and coach Otieno believes that is a great boost for the team. “We hope that they’ll beef up the squad because they are very good players,” he said.
