Alaba Akintola and Gooness Iredia shine at the Commodore Challenge in Nashville.
Alaba Akintola's consistency and progress in his races is one that needs to be applauded. The sophomore student of Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) clocked a brilliant time of 6.59s to win the men's 60m final, at the Commodore Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee.
This time smashed his previous Personal Best (PB) of 6.67s, stands as a new School Record (SR), and catapults him to the thirteenth fastest all-time on the Nigerian 60m list.
Alaba now owns the MTSU SR in the 60m and 100m, securing his spot as one of the best sprinters in the NCAA and on the verge of becoming the best in the school's history.
Meanwhile, at the same meet, Glory Nyenke, also of MTSU, and Amarachi Obi of the University of Alabama competed in the 300m event, clocking 39.16s and 39.40s respectively, which placed them seventh and eighth overall.
Goodness Iredia makes triple jump debut with highly commendable PB
Known as a high jump sensation before traveling to the US, Iredia has shown he has prospects of being a very good triple jumper.
The Cumberland University freshman student leaped to a brilliant distance and PB of 15.59m in his first-ever indoor meet, winning the event.
He also made his debut appearance for the school in the high jump, where he scaled the height of 1.96m to finish third in the event.
