Nicholas Kimeli has disclosed his goals for next season after closing the 2023 season with a dominant triumph in Iten.

After his dominant triumph at the Athletics Kenya Cross-country leg in Iten, Commonwealth Games 5000m silver medallist Nicholas Kimeli has disclosed his reason for training with Eliud Kipchoge's coach.

In a post-race interview, Kimeli explained that he was using the event to gauge himself and his readiness ahead of the World Cross-country Championships in Belgrade.

He also noted that he has been training in Kaptagat with Eliud Kipchoge’s coach Patrick Sang and hopes to have a glamorous 2024 season.

“I decided to compete here to prepare for next year’s cross-country. I hope 2024 will be good for me because there is the World Cross-country and the Olympic Games too. I hope to be among the team that will represent the country,” Kimeli said.

The 25-year-old also noted that he has finished his season and will be training hard ahead of the busy 2024 season.

However, Kimeli added that he will discuss with his coach whether he can compete in the upcoming Chepsaita Cross-country.

“I don’t hope to compete in any other race ahead of the trials towards the World Cross-country Championships.

"I have not planned to even compete in Chepsaita but I will discuss with my coach and know whether I will be going there or not,” Kimeli said.

Kimeli has had a mixed 2023 season where he finished 13th in the senior race at the World Cross-country Championships.

He also competed at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where he finished eighth in the 10,000m. In the 5000m, he failed to proceed to the final after finishing 14th in the heats. He also made his Half Marathon debut at the Valencia Half Marathon where he finished eighth.
