On his part, Athletics Kenya Youth development committee chairman Barnaba Korir admitted the steeplechase has been a challenge for Kenya for the past few years but things are looking up at the moment.

“We have gotten a beating in steeplechase in recent years but we must get a medal. I don’t know which color of medal we are going to get but the young man called Amos Serem is running really well and Koech is equally showing promise,” Korir said.

Meanwhile, acting Sports Cabinet Secretary Peter Tun added: “I foresee eight gold medals from Paris. I’m more hopeful that Tergat about our performance in Paris. The training camps we have sponsored throughout the year are bearing fruit and we shall see the full benefit of such investment.”
