There will be no gate charges for Saturday's Kip Keino Classic at the Nyayo National Stadium.
In an exciting development, organisers of the fifth edition of the Absa KipKeino Classic have declared free entry for fans attending the event at the Nyayo National Stadium this Saturday.
This means spectators will have the opportunity to witness some of the world's top athletes compete in Nairobi without any charge.
KipKeino Classic Meet Director Barnaba Korir shared the news with sports enthusiasts, encouraging them to seize this chance to fill the stadium to capacity.
“For sure there will be no entry fee for the fans... we would like to urge all the sports lovers especially those living in Nairobi to turn up in large numbers this Saturday so that we can fill the stadium to the brim," Korir said as quoted on People Sport.
Korir also expressed his ambitions for the event's future, stating, “If we fill the venue it will help us in the future because we want this Kipkeino Classic to be promoted to the rank of Diamond League. Currently we are at the level of Continental Tour Gold, and the next step is the Diamond League. After that, we will be able to get the World Championships here in Nairobi.”
The previous editions of the annual competition have seen thrilling performances, with sprint star Ferdinand Omanyalla notably outpacing elite USA and Jamaican competitors on home soil.
Korir anticipates an overwhelming turnout, aiming to surpass Nyayo Stadium's seating capacity of 30,000 fans.
As the event approaches, preparations are in full swing to ensure a seamless experience for athletes and spectators alike. Korir confirmed, “All is going on well as scheduled... Our athletes have stepped up their preparations at the Ulinzi Complex Stadium, and for the international athletes, we expect them to start arriving this evening.
"We have the logistical preparations done for the athletes from arrival to their departures after the race.”
The action-packed day will kick off with field events at 10 AM, culminating in what promises to be an exhilarating race featuring Omanyalla at 05:54 PM.
