The youngster, who is Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala’s younger brother, cut the tape first in 10.72.

Isaac Omurwa is now the East Africa Under-20 100m champion after obliterating a fine field of athletes to win the race at the Athletics Championships in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

The youngster, who is Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala’s younger brother, cut the tape first in 10.72 ahead of Uganda’s Jajab Lomotho and Tanzania’s Musta Ali who placed second and third in respective times of 10.86 and 10.87.

In the men’s Under-20 5000m category, Justus Nyamai dominated the race to win in 14:24.84 while in the 800m category, Brian Kiptum clocked 1:49.45 to win the race. 

Suleiman Hamisi of Tanzania clocked 1:53.10 for second place while another Kenyan, Sammy Kiplagat settled for third place in 1:56.40.

The victorious team of 400m gold medalists Samuel Toili, Kelvin Koech, Brian Muange, and Amos Kipkemboi won the 4x400m Under-20 race. Sebastian Simoti also won the men’s 400m U20 category as Irene Jepkemoi raised Kenya’s flag in the women’s U20 javelin throw.

In the men’s Under-20 long jump, Elia Jani of Tanzania ran away with the first place (6:29m). Nicholas Kipng’etich (6:29m) placed second while Issa Ali (6:23) of Zanzibar came third.

Team Kenya continued their dominance in the Under-18 category where Jackline Nguyen won the women’s 100m race in 12:19 as compatriot Sharon Moraa came second in 12:21. Siwema Matogoro of Tanzania settled for bronze in 12:44.

Kevin Koech won gold in the men’s 800m category, clocking 1:48.59 ahead of Amos Kipkemboi (1:49.72). Damian Christian of Tanzania (1:56.84) sealed the podium.

Judy Kemunto of Kenya won gold in the women’s 400m in 56:40 secs while Tanzania’s Grace Gerald finished second in 57:05.

The quartet of Sharon Moraa, Selfa Ojiambo, Jackline Onguyo, and Beatrice Machoka won gold in the women’s 4x100m under-18 category.

Beatrice Machoka won the women’s 400m U18 category as Nancy Cherop dominated the women’s 3, 000m.
