Ferdinand Omanyala's coach, Geoffrey Kimani has acknowledged that he played a part in Omanyala's fourth-place finish at the World Indoor Championships.

Ferdinand Omanyala’s coach Geoffrey Kimani has empathized with his client who finished fourth in the 60m final at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Omanyala clocked 6.56 to settle for fourth as Christian Coleman took the top prize in the race, clocking 6.41. Noah Lyles and Ackeem Blake finished second and third in respective times of 6.44 and 6.46.

Kimani expressed his disbelief on his X (Twitter) handle, sharing a photo of Omanyala embracing Lyles, the triple World champion, after the race.

In the caption, he said: "Tough few hours of processing a challenging day! Every athlete's and coach's dream is to finish on the podium.

“Fourth in the world is our result, I take full responsibility for this... Ferdinand Omanyala, heads up Son, mighty effort in my absence...onto the outdoors...”

Meanwhile, after the race, Omanyala also expressed disappointment to have finished in fourth place, explaining that it was the worst position ever.

Africa’s fastest man will also be missing out on The African Games as he explained that he is going to take a rest and hopefully bounce back stronger.

“It was a good race, a good experience…however, it was the worst position since number four means you have slightly missed on a podium place.

“I have to stand tall because we are now heading into the outdoor season and we will plan better. I’m sure it was a good run and we can’t do anything to change that, we just have to move forward.

“I’m yet to think about Paris and right now, I’m going to take some days and then come back,” Omanyala said.

He added that he is a work in progress and he believes his new coach will play a big role in enabling him to make a mark on the global stage. He is also planning to reduce the number of races he will compete in.
