Kenya aims for three golds in athletics, with Kipchoge, Wanyonyi, and Kipyegon leading the charge on a packed Saturday.
Kenya will likely claim three gold medals on Saturday when Eliud Kipchoge, Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Faith Kipyegon take to the field in the men's 800m and women's 1500m finals.
The 39-year-old Kipchoge will attempt to become the first person to win three consecutive marathon titles at the Games.
Wanyonyi secured his place in the men’s 800m final after a commanding performance in his semi-final heat on Friday, leading from start to finish and clocking an impressive time of 1:43.32.
Meanwhile, Faith Kipyegon, the reigning Olympic champion, is also in prime form after an effortless victory in her 1500m semi-final on Thursday.
She crossed the finish line in 3:58.64, with Great Britain’s Georgia Bell trailing closely behind in 3:59.49. Kipyegon’s dominance in the event has her poised to defend her title.
Kenya’s hopes do not end there, as Edwin Kurgat, Jacob Krop, and Ronald Kwemoi have all advanced to the men’s 5000m final.
Krop and Kurgat finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in their heat, while Kwemoi narrowly secured his spot with a sixth-place finish.
