Kenya's Ronald Kwemoi managed an impressive silver medal in the men's 5,000m as Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen won his first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Kenya’s Ronald Kwemoi managed a silver medal at the Paris Olympics in 5,000m as Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen won gold after a dominant race.

Kwemoi stayed close to the leading pack before storming off to chase Ingebrigtsen but the world champion was already out of sight as he settled for silver.

The Kenyan clocked 13:15.04 for second place behind Ingebrigtsen, who won gold in a new Olympics record of 13:13.66, as American Grant Fisher clocked 13:15.13 for a bronze medal.

As the race started, the Ethiopian contingent of Hagos Gebrhiwet, Biniam Mehary and Addisu Yihune tried to split the field by running fast and closer together.

However, that tactic failed to pay off just like in the 10,000m as Ingebrigtsen stormed off when it mattered most for a gold medal to erase the disappointments of the 1,500m when he failed to finish among the medallists.

Kwemoi followed in second but it was a big battle to claim silver as Fisher nearly ruined his party.

He held his nerve to cross the line in second place and earn his first ever medal at the Olympics.
