The World Mountain and Trail Running champion also explained that Ugandans are always experts when it comes to mountain running but Kenyans are slowly taking shape and will dominate the events this year.

Speaking to the media after a second-place finish at the Tinderet Barngetuny Mountain Run, Kipngeno said: “I worked closely with my friend Philemon Kiriago because we observed that the Ugandans are usually very strong when it comes to mountain running.

They are also known for their dominance in the cross-country but we could not let them outshine us. I discussed with Kiriago how best we could raise the country’s flag high and we surely made it.”

He added that training for mountain running is the same as training for track events and cross country. He explained that he does mountain running and other types of races like road running and cross-country.

As he gears up for a busy 2024 season, Kipngeno is looking forward to upset his opponents. He will kick off his campaign with the the Golden Trail World Series that begins in April in Japan and China for the Asian leg.

He will then start off the Valsir Mountain Running World Cup competition in June, hoping to defend his title.
