The 30-year-old suffered an injury setback last season but she has since announced her return and will be eyeing to take what belongs to her.

Olympic marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir was out of competition for the better part of last season but she has since announced her return and is going for everything that comes her way.

In 2022, Jepchirchir won the Boston Marathon and after that, went ahead and finished fifth at the Mastercard New York Mini 10K. The 30-year-old then competed at the Great North Run where she finished second.

She intended to compete at the New York City Marathon but missed due to a hip injury. However, she has since announced her return and is ready to conquer.

Her season commenced with an impressive third-place finish at the London Marathon before finishing second behind Hellen Obiri at the Great Manchester Run.

Jepchirchir then won the Great North Run and extended her winning streak to the World Road Running Championships where she bagged the Half Marathon title.

“The injury has taught me a lot…being out of competition was not easy for me but I thank God, he saved me and I am back.

"I’m back to retain my titles and come back in good shape that I’m usually in. But I’m okay now and I’m back,” the former Boston Marathon champion said.

She will be returning to the streets of New York one more time and hoping to floor her opponents. The women’s field in New York has attracted some of the greatest runners including reigning Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri and defending champion Sharon Lokedi.

“I’m gearing up for the New York City Marathon next month and after that, God knows what will happen,” she said.

The World Road Running Half Marathon champion added that her goal in the New York City Marathon is to reign supreme and not break a record.
