The sneakers that Kelvin Kiptum wore to break the marathon world record at the Chicago Marathon are now retailing at approximately Ksh 45,000.

The Nike Alphafly 3 sneakers, the shoe that Kelvin Kiptum wore to break the marathon world record at the Chicago Marathon are now retailing for Ksh 44,873.

Kiptum clocked 2:00:35 to completely shatter Eliud Kipchoge’s world record time of 2:01:09 that he set at the 2022 Berlin Marathon. Kipchoge also wore the shoes to win his fifth marathon at the German capital.

The sneaker is a part of Nike’s record-breaking super shoe series and is the brand’s most technologically advanced shoe. It has a combination of Air Zoom units, ZoomX foam, and a carbon fiber Flyplate.

The shoe debuts in Nike’s now-iconic “Prototype” colorway and the all-white silhouette features pops of color highlighting the dual Air Zoom units in the forefoot.

It also has an athlete wear-test number (20820-4) on the lateral midsole, and “V62” on the Atomknit upper signifying the number of upper iterations.

Meanwhile, during an interview with Highsnobiety late last year, Bret Schoolmeester, Nike Running’s senior product designer, described the shoe as “a real have your cake and eat it to moment” thanks to its wealth of performance-enhancing ingredients.

The overall weight has been reduced by 15 percent compared to the Alphafly 2 and, thanks to a new outsole compound and a super light FlyKnit upper, the shoe is much more streamlined. The shoe is also built for a long haul (250 miles and more).
