Mbappe and Bolt’s challenge
Mbappe is set to take on Bolt in a 100-meter race after accepting the challenge of the fastest sprinter in the world.
According to reports from Marca, Mbappe was asked about the challenge during a recent Nike event and his foundation 'Inspired by KM', he said, "I don't think I have much of a chance."
The BBC's social media posts a few months ago mentioning that Mbappe "clocked an estimated speed of 10.90 seconds over 100 metres" during a match 'was born' the interest in the event.
Everyone in the athletics community, from the International Athletics Federation to Michael Johnson, made jokes about the time.
This resulted in a laughable communication exchange between Bolt and the Frenchman leading to a challenge.
The Jamaican, who issued the challenge, laughed and said on the Laureus Awards red carpet that he is inspired by the Frenchman, "I know I was laughing when I saw it. The girls are running faster than that [10.9]"
"He has a special talent. Mbappe is very fast. Very fast on the ball," Bolt said hailing the footballers' speed.
When asked if he would compare himself to the event's world record holder, Mbappe complimented the former sprinter as well.
"Knowing that I inspire such a person is really gratifying. He inspired everyone as well. And I think everyone stayed up late at night to watch Usain Bolt run. I can say it's mutual and I started before he did to look up to him."
