The 2024 Boston Marathon features a strong field led by Evans Chebet and Sisay Lemma among athletes from 28 countries.

A fast and highly competitive professional men’s field is set to take center stage at the 2024 Boston Marathon headlined by two-time defending open champion Evans Chebet who will face off against Ethiopian speedster Sisay Lemma on April 15.

Chebet made history in 2023 by crossing the finish line in 2:05:54, becoming the first man to claim back-to-back victories since Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot's streak from 2006 to 2008.

His consistent performance, marked by six wins in his last seven marathons, demonstrates his deep understanding of the challenging Hopkinton-to-Boston route.

Reflecting on his past success and the upcoming race, Chebet said, “Boston has become like a second home to me, and running in Boston is always special – returning as reigning champion even more so.

Even after 28 marathons in my career, the prospect of my 29th in Boston, propelled by the enthusiasm of the fans, fuels my motivation to defend my title. I eagerly await the spring, ready to immerse in the energy of the Boston streets and the supportive crowds along the course.”

Standing as a formidable challenger is Sisay Lemma, fresh from a stunning victory at the Valencia Marathon with a time of 2:01:48, ranking him as the fourth fastest marathoner in history.

Lemma's impressive track record includes winning the TCS London Marathon in 2021. He leads a formidable group of 20 athletes who have personal bests under 2:10:00, setting the stage for a thrilling competition.

From Tanzania, 2023 Boston Marathon runner-up and national record holder Gabriel Geay, boasting a personal best of 2:03:00, matches Chebet's record, adding another layer of competition to the race.

The Boston Marathon will also witness the participation of seven other runners with sub-2:05 personal bests, including Kenya's Joshua Belet (2:04:18), Ronald Korir (2:04:22), Cyprian Kotut (2:04:34), and Ethiopians Haftu Teklu (2:04:43) and Shura Kitata (2:04:49), both runners-up in major marathons.

Adding international flavor to the event are Olympian and former Japanese marathon national record holder Suguru Osako, who has achieved podium finishes in Boston, Chicago, and Tokyo; Norwegian Olympic marathoner Sondre Moen; TCS New York City champion Albert Korir, who secured fourth place in 2023; and Zouhair Talbi of Morocco, who recently won the Houston Marathon with a record time of 2:06:39.

American Edward Cheserek, a 22-time NCAA Champion at Oregon, is set to make his Boston Marathon debut, adding to the mix of Boston veterans and high-profile debutants.
