Reynold Cheruiyot, just like any other track and field athlete, is hoping to make the cut to the Kenyan Olympic team and treat his fans to a surprise at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Reigning World Under-20 1500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot is planning to impress Kenyans as he charts his path to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games scheduled for later this year.

The 19-year-old expressed his interest in making his debut on the global stage at a young age and he has plans to come back home with a medal.

The World Under-20 Cross Country silver medallist will begin his international campaign at the Los Angeles Grand Prix scheduled for Saturday, May 18 before proceeding to the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene, USA.

He also plans to compete at the Olympic Games national trials, to prove to Athletics Kenya that he is the athlete to beat at the global bonanza.

“I want to compete at the Los Angeles Grand Prix and then I will go to the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene.

"My main target is to go for the Paris 2024 Olympics and I need to make sure I qualify during the trials and then after that, maybe I can surprise Kenyans and bring a medal from Paris,” Cheruiyot said.

He opened his outdoor season on the track with a world leading time of 3:31.96 at the Kip Keino Classic. Before that, Cheruiyot was part of the formidable team that claimed a gold medal in the mixed relay at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

After his victory at the Kip Keino Classic, the junior athlete was elated and disclosed that he had a flu but he could not let such get in his way as he focused on the top prize.

“Today’s race has not been bad and I want to thank God for enabling me to win the race. I had a slight flu but I did not encounter any major challenges," he said.
