Uganda's Sarah Chelangat has set a new national record in the half marathon distance in Copenhagen on August 17.
The sole Ugandan athlete at the event, Chelangat finished eighth after running 1:07:5 with a respectable pace of 3:14 min/km in a field dominated by Kenyans and Ethiopians.
The result breaks Juliet Chekwel's record of 1:08:44 set at the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia, Poland.
Despite her excellent form, Chelangat has not been fielded for the 2023 World Road Running Championships, which will take place in Riga, Latvia, on October 1.
Annet Chemengich Chelangat and Belinda Chemutai are the women athletes representing Uganda in the half marathon in Latvia.
In Copenhagen, Kenya swept the podium with a 1-2-3 finish. Irine Cheptai won gold, clocking 1:05:53 ahead of Winfridah Moseti, who clocked 1:06:40 to finish second.
Jesca Chelangat completed the podium after timing 1:07:03 to cross the line.
Ethiopia's Hawi Feysa, primed for glory in the race, faded to finish fourth in a time of 1:07:18.
