World Half Marathon champion Sabastian Sawe triumphed in the men’s elite division at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race, clocking an impressive time of 28:03.

This victory marked a significant debut for Sawe in the U.S. racing scene further cementing his status as the top-ranked road racer globally.

The 29-year-old Kenyan, renowned for his second-fastest 10K time of 26:49 last year, has continued to dominate the global running stage.

His recent win at the Peachtree Road Race not only adds to his illustrious career but also positions him at the pinnacle of the 2024 leaderboard for the fastest half marathon times worldwide.

In a post-race interview, an elated Sawe shared his thoughts on his decision to compete in Atlanta.

"In this career of athletics, I’m like trying to be where we have not been. So it was my choice. I’m trying to run here," he explained.

When asked about his message to young runners who look up to him for inspiration and motivation, Sawe emphasized the virtues of perseverance and dedication.

"Yeah, running is so good. It needs special and hard work," he stated, underscoring the rigorous commitment required to excel in the sport.

Sawe also took a moment to address his fans back home in Kenya.

"I wish them a happy time. I represented them well, and I clicked (called) them and wish them a nice evening there," he said, highlighting his connection and gratitude towards his supporters.

The race itself was a nail-biter with Sawe narrowly defeating Leonard Ebenyo by a mere two seconds.
