The American sprint icon believes Brittany Brown is a top contender for the 2025 World Championships after an impressive 2024 season, but she will face tough competition from Gabby Thomas, and the Jamaican sprint trio.

Justin Gatlin believes Olympic 200m silver medallist Brittany Brown is one to watch ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

The 2004 Olympic champion did not want to rule the American out following her impressive run this season. Brittany Brown started her campaign with a second-place finish at the US Olympic trials before heading to the Paris Olympic Games.

In the French capital, she completed the podium in the women’s 200m final, finishing third behind Gabby Thomas and Julien Alfred. She then went on to claim the trophy at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels before capping off her season with a second-place finish in the women’s 100m and a win in the 200m at Athlos, Alexis Ohanian’s women-only event.

Noting that a healthy Shericka Jackson is lethal, he opined that Brittany Brown has also overcome so much and she will be looking to continue her hot streak in 2025. Gabby Thomas will also be in the mix in the women’s 200m, hoping for a better run just like this season.

The world 200m silver medallist claimed the 200m Olympic gold medal and was very vital as Team USA won the 4x100m and 4x400m relay races.

“They have the capability of doing so…that’s a showdown I want to see, I want to see a Shericka-Gabby showdown. She is a fighter…she had an amazing season, I would say that just because of how everything went, from where she came from to where she ended up at, she has the biggest upswing too,” Justin Gatlin said on his Ready Set Go podcast.

“Brittany had a dream season, to be able to go out there, where you start your season off with complaining about you getting put on the outside lane to now when you start winning, you make the Olympic team at the Olympic trials then you get a medal at the Olympics then you go on to win it big for the Diamond Leagues but also Athlos, like she had a great season. she just needs to keep that going,” he added.

On his part, his co-host Rodney Green also explained that Brittany Brown is an athlete to watch going into next season as he proudly noted that he remains one of her biggest fans.

Green did not also rule out the Jamaican trio of Shericka Jackson, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah, revealing that they might be back for revenge and they can upset everyone. He added that Shericka Jackson has taken a well-deserved break, healing from her injury and she will be back to dominate like never before.

After a disappointing outing at the Paris Olympic Games, Rodney Green believes Dina Asher-Smith will also be in hunt for a piece of the cake when she lines up against her rivals at the 2025 World Championships.

“Brittany to me has the highest upswing…Gabby is going to do what she does but once again, the Jamaicans, needless to say, all three of them could upset the better status. There are Shericka, Elaine and Shell-Ann, as well as Dina in there, somebody else who could upset that medal stand,” Green said.

“That is going to be crazy, Gabby is going to do what she does, world champion, with a healthy Shericka Jackson next year, I don’t know, Shericka is very impressive to me when you go over her resume from the 100m, 200m and the 400m, Shelly-Ann and Elaine, their resume is impeccable in the 100m and 200m but Shericka is one of the best all-around sprinters’ female-wise. It will definitely be nice to see Shericka vs Gabby…she (Shericka) took a lot of time off to get healed up and a healthier Elaine is a hell of a 200m runner, she ain’t no slump but Brittany Brown still makes the medal bracket.”
