The coach noted that Jamaican sprinters are in good shape and can repeat their 2008 Beijing Olympic Games exploits.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s former coach Michael Carr believes Jamaica is in a good place to win as many medals as they can in sprints at the Paris Olympic Games.

During an interview with CVM TV, Carr noted that Jamaica redefined the sprinting era at the 2008 Olympic Games, winning gold medals in both the men’s and women’s 100m and 200m races.

Usain Bolt and Fraser-Pryce won the 100m gold medals while Veronica Campbell-Brown and Bolt took top honours in the 200m. Carr lauded Jamaicans for the 2008 exploits, noting they can do much better this year.

“We changed the game in 2008…Jamaica has many medals in sprinting alongside the USA and I believe that in this Olympics, we shall be seeing once again on the podium in the male and female sprinting,” Carr said.

“In the women’s 100m, I think we can have athletes to get on the podium and in the males, we can get at least two podium finishers. They have the potential to do that,” he added.

The veteran tactician noted that the rivalry between USA and Jamaica will continue with the rise of Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson.

He explained that Thompson has been a threat to Lyles, alluding that Lyles withdrew from the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco after Thompson’s dominant exploits in Hungary a few days earlier.

“The rivalry will continue…Noah Lyles was to compete in Monaco and strangely he pulled out. I don’t think it’s that strange because whenever Kishane Thompson is doing that insane thing, the world of track and field stops,” he said.

“When we look at Noah Lyles, he is the main thing for the USA, and he would have finished fairly at our trials. I think we are in a good place,” he added.
