ATHLETICS Mary Moraa carries Kenya's hopes with able shoulders into 800m semis in Budapest
The 23-year-old steps into the competitive World Athletics Championships semifinals as the lone Kenyan contender.
She finally came out to disclose her love for colorful wigs and jokingly said that she could not afford to compete without her sunshine, to mean her wigs.
“So, you know I can’t leave out my sunshine…my yellow is for Jamaica of course and the orange is like the fire at the end of the rocket.
I have to keep it vibrant and keep it loud because that’s just who I am,” she said during an interview with World Athletics.
The multiple Olympic champion added that her resilience has always been a savior for her and it motivates her to keep pushing despite the setbacks. She suffered an injury setback earlier this year and her chances of being at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary came close to none.
However, having only competed twice, Fraser-Pryce stunned her fans to finish third in the women’s 100m. USA’s Sha’Carri Richardson and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson finished first and second respectively.
“I think I’m resilient and persistent. I also don’t know how to give up,” she added.
