Shericka Jackson has opened up about her aggressive nature growing up and how it shaped her career.

Young Shericka Jackson would be proud of the milestones she achieved so far since growing up, having once held a dream of becoming one of the best sprinters in the world.

The reigning world 200m champion revealed that she was aggressive growing up , which worked well for considering never cared about what people had to say.

Shericka Jackson told Sim Soul Sessions that people would always try to tone down her personality but due to her strong belief in herself, she would always shut the door on them.

Jackson has revealed that her aggressiveness forced her to grow thick skin from a young age and she never really got to enjoy the perks of being a child. However, she pointed out that at the moment, she has toned down her aggressiveness a bit.

The two-time world 100m silver medallist added that her aggressive personality chased many of her friends away and those who were close to her were always afraid of letting her know if she was wrong because of how she would react.

“It’s something where, I think a lot of people told me back then that I need to change the way I approach things but as I said it was a barrier where I felt like I needed to protect myself,” Shericka Jackson said.

“In that space, I don’t think I had enough people in my corner, just as being in a high school to say okay then, they will protect me. I felt like I was my own protector so I think it really helps me a lot cause I just felt too grown up for my age.”

Thanks to her strong personality, Shericka Jackson has managed to make a name for herself in the world of sprinting. She is a four-time world champion and has one gold medal to her name from the Olympic Games relays.

She also has a silver medal from the Olympic Games, two bronze medals and has won three Diamond League Meeting trophies. However, Jackson has yet to win an individual medal in the 200m and was hoping to accomplish that this year.

An injury setback cost her this year and she did not compete at the Paris Olympic Games, a huge step backward in her career. Nonetheless, she will be hoping to recover from the heartbreak next season with the 2025 World Championships at stake.
