Just weeks after joining college in the United States, athlete Solomon Kampala Kyagulanyi intends to keep his dreams as a sportsman alive whilst keeping tabs on books as well.

The son of musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine is moments away from joining Del Mar College's athletics team.

A member of the Fire Base crew (Bobi Wine's founded music group), Martin Kalungi, told this website that Kampala will officially join the team shortly.

"The family is excited as the boy wants to keep chasing his dreams. He has been training with the rest of the team,” Kalungi said.

"He is going to join the college team, and it's just a matter of time; that's all I can say,” he added.

Kampala is a 200m runner who even scooped bronze in the Ultimate Race Nights in Dubai in March this year after running 23.09 seconds, which is his personal best to date.

A month later, in the national athletics trials, Kampala missed out on a spot in the national team going to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, by a whisker.

He ran 24.72 seconds to finish third in his heat as eventual winner Allan Ngobi finished with 21.08 seconds.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that Del Mar College has the 'Fall 2023 Intramural Sports Program' that provides students with various recreational sports and activities.

The sports disciplines offered in the program include athletics, football, netball, basketball, American football, tennis, and board games, among others.
