ATHLETICS Stage set for the National Championships as Athletics Kenya reveal dates and venue

The event will definitely be a thriller as it will see the likes of Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala, and maverick Mary Moraa in action.

As the dates for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary draw near, Athletics Kenya will not be left out as they gear up to host the National Championships cum National trials to the global show.

The Championships will be staged at the Nyayo National Stadium and will run from Thursday, June 22 to Saturday, June 24.

The event will definitely be a thriller as it will see the likes of Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala, maverick Mary Moraa and golden girl Faith Kipyegon take on strong fields to display their prowess on home soil.

Athletes who are yet to hit the qualifying times for the World championships will be hoping to make their last stab at the event with the hope that things fall into place. Some will be hoping to debut in the national team while others will be returning.

So far, Kipyegon, Omanyala, and Moraa are guaranteed slots in the World Championships since they have already hit the qualifying time.

A formidable marathon has also been selected and they have already started training for the event. The men include the 2022 Abu Dhabi Marathon champion Timothy Kiplagat, Joshua Belet, and the Telepass Milano Marathon Titus Kipruto. Michael Githae and Bethwel Kibet are reserves.

In the women’s field will have the 2022 Frankfurt Marathon champion Selly Kaptich, Enschede Marathon champion Shyline Jepkorir and reigning Tokyo Marathon champion Rosemary Wanjiru. The reserves are Margaret Wangari Muriuki and Betty Chepkwony.
