Despite his fifth-place finish at the Kip Keino Classic, Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala will still walk to the bank smiling to collect his portion from the race powered by Absa Bank.
Thousands of fans descended at the Nyayo National Stadium to witness home talent Ferdinand Omanyala impress at the fifth edition of the Absa Kip Keino Classic on April 20, Saturday.
However, Omanyala faded to finish fifth, clocking a time of 10.03 to cross the finish line in the race that was won by America’s Kenneth Bednarek who clocked 9.91. Liberia’s Emmanuel Matadi finished second in a time of 9.99 as Great Beritain’s Jeremiah Azu completed the podium in 10.00.
Italy’s Chituru Ali finished fourth, clocking 10.01 to cross the line as Mark Odhiambo, competing at the Kip Keino Classic for the first time after serving his doping ban, finished sixth in 10.22.

As per World Athletics, the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Level Meetings will offer two levels of prize money per discipline and will award the top eight athletes.
The winners of the race in the core events will walk away with about Ksh 667,500 with the second and third-place finishers walking away with Ksh 400,500 and Ksh 267,000.
The athletes who finished fourth, fifth, and sixth in the core events will pocket about Ksh 186,900, Ksh 160,200, and Ksh 133,500 respectively. The athletes who finish seventh and eighth will walk away with Ksh 106,800 and Ksh 80,100.
This outlay has been made available by the continued support of Africa's leading financial hub, Absa Bank, which has displayed a comforting loyalty to athletes from the local scene as well as the larger African continent.
In the discretionary events, the winners will walk away with about Ksh 455,000 with the second and third-place finishers pocketing Ksh 260,000 and Ksh 182,000. Top eight finishers will additionally be awarded.
World Athletics noted that prize money shall be paid within 30 days of receipt of the doping control clearance from the Athletics Integrity Unit and complete invoices which must comply with the communicated legal, fiscal and procedural requirements of the Organiser.
