Faith Cherotich is among three youngsters nominated for the 2023 Women's Rising Star Award.

World 3000m Steeplechase bronze medallist Faith Cherotich is among the three finalists for the 2023 Women’s Rising Star Award, which will recognise this year's best U20 athlete at the World Athletics Awards 2023.

Cherotich, 19, got nominated owing to her World Championships bronze medal in the senior category. She is also the number two on the world U20 all-time list with 8:59.65 and she also finished fourth at the World Cross Country Championships U20 race in Bathurst, Australia.

Another athlete who made it to the list is Ethiopia’s Medina Eisa owing to the fact that she finished second in the Under-20 race at the World Cross Country Championships.

She also finished sixth in the 5000m at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary with a Personal Best time of 14:16.54.

The Ethiopian also finished fourth in the 5km at the World Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia.

Serbia’s Angelina Topic is the third on the list, after finishing seventh at the World Championships high jump. She also jumped a national record distance of 1.97m and she is also the European U20 champion.

As per World Athletics, nominations reflect some of the standout performances that the sport has witnessed this year, at the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23, World Athletics Cross Country Championships Bathurst 23, World Athletics Road Running Championships Riga 23, one-day meeting circuits, and other events around the world.

The winner of the 2023 Women’s Rising Star Award will be selected by an international panel of experts and be announced on World Athletics’ platforms on December 11.
