Uganda’s challenge at the 2023 World Cross Country Championship in Bathurst, Australia got off to a false start with a fifth placed finish in the 4x2km mixed relays.

The Ugandan team included national record holder over 1500m Ronald Musagala, Aciru Knight, Abu Mayanja and Linda Chebet.
Musagala was first on the course for Uganda, covering the first two kilometres in 5:59, 18 seconds beind South Africa who charged into the lead.
At the cross over, Chebet managed to close the gap to Spain in 10th position, but positions were shuffled upfront.
South Africa and Australia both enjoyed brief stints at the front of the pack. But strong legs from Daniel Kyumbe Munguti and Brenda Chebet - Kenya's last two runners - gave their team a comfortable lead.
Ethiopia were outside the podium going into the final lap, but Birke Haylom carried them past both South Africa and Australia into second position.
In the end, Uganda managed to close the gap on Spain and New Zealand to finish ninth following strong runs from Mayanja and Aciru.
